Funeral
Funeral
An Islamic funeral is considered a community event. Muslims believe a funeral to be a very spiritual occasion. Everyone in attendance participates in group prayers.
One very important funeral rite in the Islamic faith is that burial take place as quickly as possible after death.
Funeral Process
The community’s Muslims come together to collectively offer prayers seeking forgiveness for the deceased. This prayer is commonly known as Salat al-Janazah or the Funeral Prayer, and it is typically led by the Imam.
Similar to the Eid prayer, the Janazah prayer includes an extra four Takbirs, which are the Arabic expressions for “Allahu Akbar.” However, unlike other prayers, there is no Ruku’ (bowing) or Sujud (prostration) in the Janazah prayer.
